Imagine a world where you don't have to remember dozens of passwords, where a major retailer's data leak does not reveal your social security number, and where you can confirm you're over 21 without revealing your home location. This is the promise of Decentralized Identity (DID).<h2>What Are Decentralized Identifiers?</h2>Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) are unique, self-owned digital identifiers that can be issued by a decentralized platform and allow individuals and organizations to have control over their own identity on the internet without relying on central authorities, such as the government or a company. Since Decentralized Identity offers a compelling vision for a more secure, private, and user-controlled future, the goal now should be how to intelligently design that future, addressing its limitations while keeping its revolutionary potential to give people true control over their digital selves.
