Alien Worlds (TLM) is a blockchain-based decentralized metaverse game that blends elements of decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with gaming. It was developed by Dacoco GmbH and launched in 2020. The game operates across multiple blockchain networks including Ethereum, WAX, and Binance Smart Chain (BSC), now known as BNB Chain, allowing for broad accessibility. The core objective in Alien Worlds is for players, referred to as Explorers, to journey to different virtual planets to mine for Trilium (TLM), which is the metaverse's native utility token. Everything within the Alien Worlds metaverse is tokenized, meaning in-game items such as tools, avatars, minions, weapons, artifacts, and land plots are represented as NFTs, providing players with true digital ownership. These NFTs have specific purposes within the game; for example, mining tools help extract TLM more efficiently. The Trilium (TLM) token has several uses within the game's ecosystem. It serves as an in-game currency for purchasing and upgrading items, joining quests and battles, and acquiring NFTs. Players can also stake TLM to participate in the governance of Planet Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs), where they can vote on proposals, allocate daily TLM distributions, and influence the game's development. Staking TLM on a chosen planet also allows players to participate in both TLM and NFT mining. Gameplay revolves around various activities including mining Trilium using NFT tools on virtual land, engaging in battles in the Battledome, and undertaking missions. New players receive basic tools to begin mining, and can choose which planet and land plot to mine on, with landowners collecting a commission from mining activities. Alien Worlds utilizes a play-to-earn model, allowing players to earn rewards through gameplay or participation in Planet DAOs. The WAX blockchain, where a majority of the game mechanics reside, employs a Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) system, which is designed to be energy-efficient compared to Proof of Work systems.
