Eigenpie is a Liquid Restaking Platform operating within the EigenLayer ecosystem, established as a SubDAO by Magpie XYZ. Its core function is to enable users to restake their Ethereum (ETH) and various Liquid Staking Tokens (LSTs). This process supports the validation of new decentralized services, while still providing liquidity through the issuance of Liquid Restaking Tokens (LRTs). Users can earn additional rewards beyond standard Ethereum staking through this mechanism.

Frax Ether (frxETH) is a liquid ETH staking derivative developed by Frax Finance, designed to maintain a loose 1:1 peg to ETH. Holding frxETH alone does not yield staking rewards. To earn rewards, users deposit frxETH into an ERC-4626 compliant vault, receiving Staked Frax Ether (sfrxETH) in return. The sfrxETH token then accrues staking yield from Frax ETH validators, with its value gradually increasing relative to frxETH as rewards accumulate over time.

msfrxETH is an "Isolated Liquid Restaked version" of sfrxETH created by the Eigenpie platform. Users acquire msfrxETH by depositing their sfrxETH, which is already earning staking rewards from Frax Finance, into Eigenpie. Eigenpie then restakes this sfrxETH through the EigenLayer protocol. This mechanism allows holders to earn compounded rewards from both the underlying sfrxETH staking (via Frax Finance) and the additional EigenLayer restaking activities, all encapsulated within the msfrxETH token.

When sfrxETH is deposited into Eigenpie, the platform restakes these assets through EigenLayer. This means the deposited sfrxETH helps secure various decentralized applications and blockchain platforms, known as Actively Validated Services (AVSs), in addition to contributing to the Ethereum network's security. By participating in this process, msfrxETH holders can earn rewards from two distinct sources: their original Ethereum staking via sfrxETH and the additional EigenLayer restaking activities, all while retaining asset liquidity through the msfrxETH token.

Holding msfrxETH offers several key advantages. It provides enhanced yield, allowing users to earn compounded rewards from both Ethereum staking through sfrxETH and additional EigenLayer restaking. The token maintains liquidity, meaning it can be traded or utilized in other decentralized finance (DeFi) applications despite its role in staking. Users also accumulate Eigenpie Points by holding msfrxETH on the platform, which can potentially qualify them for future token airdrops. Furthermore, Eigenpie's "Isolated Liquid Restaking" model aims to limit risks associated with other LSTs by tying msfrxETH's performance solely to sfrxETH.

While Eigenpie aims to mitigate certain risks, holding msfrxETH involves several considerations. These include smart contract risk, where vulnerabilities in the underlying smart contracts of Eigenpie, EigenLayer, or Frax Finance could lead to asset loss. There's also de-pegging risk, meaning frxETH could lose its intended 1:1 peg to ETH, directly impacting msfrxETH's value. Slashing risk exists due to restaking for AVSs, where validator misbehavior could incur penalties. General protocol risks inherent in EigenLayer and Frax Finance, along with centralization risk regarding node operators and potential liquidity risk under extreme market conditions, are also present.
