FLUID WRAPPED ETHER (FWETH) FAQ
What exactly is Fluid Wrapped Ether (fwETH)?
fwETH is an ERC-20 receipt token, often called an "fToken," issued when you deposit ETH or WETH into the Fluid protocol. It represents your share of the liquidity pool and acts as a yield-bearing version of Ether, reflecting your stake in the protocol's liquidity.
Is fwETH the same as WETH (Wrapped Ether)?
No. WETH is a simple 1:1 "wrapper" for ETH to make it ERC-20 compatible for use in decentralized applications. fwETH, however, is a yield-bearing token within the Fluid ecosystem. Unlike WETH which doesn't inherently earn interest, fwETH increases in value relative to ETH over time by capturing protocol fees and interest generated by the Fluid protocol.
How does fwETH earn yield?
Yield is generated through Fluid’s "Unified Liquidity Layer." The ETH you supply as liquidity is strategically deployed across the protocol’s lending, borrowing, and decentralized exchange modules. The interest paid by borrowers and a portion of the trading fees collected within the protocol are funneled back to fwETH holders, accumulating value for your holdings.
Does the amount of fwETH in my wallet increase?
Generally, no. Fluid utilizes a "Price per Share" model. The number of fwETH tokens in your wallet typically remains constant. Instead, each individual fwETH token becomes redeemable for a progressively larger amount of underlying ETH over time as the accumulated yield accrues to the value of the token itself.
Can I redeem fwETH for ETH at any time?
Yes, you can redeem your fwETH for the underlying ETH through the Fluid interface whenever you wish. However, the protocol incorporates an "Automated Debt Ceiling" mechanism for withdrawals. This system is designed to prevent sudden liquidity shocks to the protocol, which might occasionally lead to a "smoothing" or staged release for very large withdrawal requests during periods of high demand.
What are the risks of holding fwETH?
The primary risks associated with holding fwETH include: Smart Contract Risk, which refers to potential vulnerabilities or bugs within the Fluid protocol's code; Liquidity Risk, where a massive surge in withdrawal requests might require you to wait for the "Automated Debt Ceiling" to refresh before full redemption; and Market Risk, which involves the inherent fluctuations in the underlying value of ETH itself.
