Manta Network features two distinct chains. Manta Pacific is an Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) scaling solution, primarily hosting DeFi activities and decentralized applications. It uses ETH for transaction gas fees. Manta Atlantic, conversely, is a Layer 1 (L1) blockchain built on Polkadot. Its main focus is on Zero-Knowledge (ZK) identities (zkSBTs) and privacy-preserving applications. MANTA tokens are used for gas fees on Atlantic, and it is also the designated chain for native MANTA token staking.

Manta Network is not classified as a "privacy coin" in the same vein as projects like Monero, which focus on anonymizing transactions. Instead, Manta is a ZK-application platform. It leverages Zero-Knowledge (ZK) technology to enable developers to construct applications where users can verify specific data attributes, such as age or identity, without needing to disclose the underlying sensitive personal information. This approach prioritizes verifiable privacy without full transactional anonymity.

The MANTA token serves several crucial functions within the ecosystem. It acts as a governance token, allowing holders to participate in voting on proposed protocol changes and future developments. MANTA is also essential for staking, used to secure the Manta Atlantic network and earn rewards. Furthermore, it is required to pay for transaction fees on Manta Atlantic (while Manta Pacific uses ETH). Finally, MANTA can be utilized as collateral within the various DeFi applications native to the ecosystem, providing liquidity and supporting financial activities.

MANTA token staking is conducted on the Manta Atlantic (L1) blockchain. To participate and earn rewards, you must delegate a minimum of 500 MANTA to a chosen collator. Please note there's a 7-day unstaking period during which your tokens are locked before they can be withdrawn. Rewards are distributed approximately every 6 hours but are not automatically compounded; you'll need to manually claim and re-stake them to maximize earnings. Currently, delegators face no slashing risk, only collators.

To transfer MANTA tokens between the Manta Pacific (L2) and Manta Atlantic (L1) chains, you must use the official Manta Bridge, which is often powered by solutions like Celer. It's common for users to encounter "Insufficient Balance" errors during this process. This typically occurs because you lack the necessary gas fee token on the originating chain: either ETH when bridging from Pacific to Atlantic, or MANTA when bridging from Atlantic to Pacific. Always ensure you have sufficient native gas tokens on the respective chain to complete the transaction.

Wallet support for Manta Network tokens depends on the chain they reside on. For Manta Pacific (L2), which is an Ethereum-compatible Layer 2, standard EVM-compatible wallets are supported, including popular options like MetaMask, Rabby, and Trust Wallet. If your MANTA tokens are on Manta Atlantic (L1), which is built on Polkadot, you will need a Polkadot-compatible wallet. Recommended options for Atlantic include the Manta Wallet, SubWallet, or Polkadot.js browser extension. Ensure you're using the correct wallet for the respective chain to view and manage your tokens.
