MEMENTO•MORI was personally etched and deployed by Casey Rodarmor, the creator of the Bitcoin Runes and Ordinals protocols. It is widely regarded as "the creator’s coin." Unlike other Runes created by the community, this is the first token Rodarmor launched himself, giving it a unique status of digital provenance. Its significance stems from its historical connection to the protocol's origin, similar to how a first edition of a book is valued.

The total supply of MORI is 100,000,000 tokens. The distribution was split equally into two halves. 50% of the supply (50 million tokens) was airdropped to subscribers of the Hell Money Podcast Patreon on Halloween 2024. The remaining 50% was made available through an open mint process on the same day. This public etching event was highly anticipated, leading to significant activity and a massive gas war on the Bitcoin network.

The official stance from Casey Rodarmor and the community is that there is no utility and no roadmap for the project. MEMENTO•MORI functions as a community-run meme coin. Its purpose is to reflect the philosophical concept of "memento mori," which translates to "remember you must die."
