MobileCoin (MOB) is a privacy-centric cryptocurrency optimized for mobile devices and everyday transactions. Its primary goal is to offer secure, fast, and private peer-to-peer payments. It's designed to make digital cash as easy and confidential to use as physical cash, but with the advantages of blockchain technology. The project focuses on integrating seamlessly into daily life, providing a reliable and private medium of exchange for a wide user base.

MobileCoin employs a robust suite of privacy-enhancing technologies to ensure transaction confidentiality. It utilizes CryptoNote, zero-knowledge proofs, ring signatures, one-time addresses, and RingCT to conceal transaction specifics, ensuring that only the sender and receiver can view transaction details. Furthermore, the public blockchain is encrypted for security. It leverages SGX secure enclaves for validated transactions and introduces the MobileCoin Fog feature, which provides end-to-end encryption to prevent external applications from monitoring payment flows, thereby safeguarding user data comprehensively.

MobileCoin is specifically engineered for seamless integration into messaging applications. This design choice enables users to perform confidential transactions and transfer funds with the same ease as sending a text message. Its native integration with secure messaging platforms like Signal, and also Mixin Messenger, aims to significantly simplify the onboarding process for new users. By leveraging existing, widely-used communication channels, MobileCoin strives to make decentralized digital assets more accessible and user-friendly for a broad audience, fostering wider adoption for everyday payments.

MobileCoin is distinguished by its exceptional transaction speed. It boasts transaction finality in as little as 3 seconds, which is a key feature making it highly suitable for everyday payment scenarios. This rapid confirmation time ensures that users can conduct real-world transactions, such as purchasing goods or services, with the immediacy expected from traditional payment methods, but with added privacy and security benefits inherent to cryptocurrency.

MobileCoin is designed with a strong emphasis on energy efficiency and holds the distinction of being the first carbon-negative cryptocurrency. This is achieved by utilizing the Federated Byzantine Agreement (FBA) consensus protocol, which is a more sustainable alternative to energy-intensive Proof of Work systems. Under FBA, network node servers remain largely idle, only becoming active when required to process transactions. This operational model drastically reduces energy consumption, making MobileCoin an environmentally conscious choice for digital payments.

The MOB token operates with a fixed maximum supply capped at 250 million coins, all of which were pre-mined before the network's launch. A portion of this supply, approximately 37.5 million MOB, was allocated during a private presale event. Transaction fees within the MobileCoin network are set at a minimal level, currently a minimum of 0.0004 MOB per transaction. These collected fees are then directed to the MobileCoin Foundation, supporting the ongoing development and maintenance of the MobileCoin ecosystem.
