Mode is a modular DeFi Layer 2 blockchain built on the OP Stack as part of the Optimism Superchain ecosystem. Its core mission is to scale the "on-chain economy" by providing a developer-friendly environment that rewards contribution. Mode distinguishes itself by pivoting toward DeFAI (DeFi + AI), integrating autonomous AI agents to perform complex financial tasks. This allows the network to function as a specialized hub for automated yield optimization and portfolio management within the broader Ethereum ecosystem.

Unlike general-purpose Layer 2s, Mode focuses specifically on the intersection of decentralized finance and artificial intelligence (DeFAI). It offers a unique "Build-to-Earn" model through Sequencer Fee Sharing (SFS). This mechanism automatically distributes a portion of the network's transaction fees to the developers who build the smart contracts generating those fees. By providing infrastructure for AI agents to operate autonomously, Mode creates a more sophisticated and automated financial environment compared to traditional L2 platforms.

The MODE token serves three primary functions: governance, incentives, and staking. Governance allows token holders to vote on protocol upgrades and the allocation of ecosystem resources. As an incentive tool, MODE is used to reward developers for their contributions and active users for their participation. Furthermore, users can stake their MODE tokens to gain voting power, secure "points boosts" for ecosystem rewards, and participate in the long-term growth of the network.

The "Sunrise" campaign is Mode’s primary incentive program designed to grow the ecosystem. Users earn "Mode Points" by bridging assets such as ETH, USDT, USDC, and WBTC to the network and interacting with native applications like decentralized exchanges and lending protocols. While Season 1 rewarded early bridging and past on-chain activity, Season 2 focuses on deeper participation, including staking MODE tokens. These accumulated points are eventually converted into MODE token allocations for eligible participants.

Users can bridge assets to Mode from Ethereum Layer 1 using the Official Mode Bridge. While the official bridge requires a 7-day challenge period for withdrawals back to the mainnet due to the nature of Optimistic Rollups, users may utilize reputable third-party cross-chain bridges for faster transfers. To access the network, users can manually configure their wallets with the Mode Network Name, Chain ID 34443, and the official RPC URL, enabling them to interact with the growing DeFAI ecosystem.

Mode offers specialized infrastructure for AI-driven finance, including an AI Agent App Store and the Mode AI Terminal. The App Store is a marketplace for autonomous agents that execute automated DeFi strategies, such as yield farming, on behalf of users. The AI Terminal is a "co-pilot" interface that allows users to perform on-chain actions like swapping or staking using natural language commands. These tools aim to simplify complex blockchain interactions, making sophisticated DeFi strategies more accessible through AI-powered automation.
