Staked Cap USD, or stcUSD, is a yield-bearing stablecoin that is part of the Cap stablecoin protocol. The Cap protocol provides financial guarantees through two primary products: the dollar-denominated cUSD and the yield-bearing stcUSD. The cUSD token is a digital dollar issued on the Ethereum blockchain, designed to be used across various networks. Its reserve is supported by established stablecoins, such as USDC, USDT, pyUSD, BUIDL, and BENJI. These underlying assets are issued by regulated institutions and feature transparent attestations, ensuring that cUSD is 1:1 redeemable for any of these reserve assets. stcUSD itself functions as a savings product. Users can obtain stcUSD by staking their cUSD. The system is designed to generate yield through a decentralized lending framework that involves an autonomous network of operators. These operators borrow from the Cap protocol's reserves. To do so, they must secure overcollateralized delegations from individuals known as restakers. The yield generation process involves operators executing strategies, and if successful, the generated yield is distributed among stakeholders. A portion of this yield is directed back to stcUSD holders, while restakers and the operators also receive a share. An important aspect of the protocol is that the risk associated with yield generation is covered, providing users with full downside protection that can be verified through code. When cUSD is staked to mint stcUSD, any idle stablecoins within the reserve automatically accrue rewards. These rewards can originate directly from the underlying assets or through integrations with other protocols like Aave or Morpho.
